Ndola’s squash sensation Chilambwe scoops 2013  Midlands Squash Open championship

Lusaka, May 19^th, 2013,  ZANIS— Ndola’s squash sensation Manda Chilambwe has emerged winner of  the 2013  Midlands Squash Open which was held at the Lusaka Club in Lusaka over the weekend.

 

And reigning national champion in the women’s category Sharon Chimfwembe returned her championship after beating her closest rival Monica Chileshe in all the three categories which attracted a total of 10 players.

 

ZANIS sports reports that Chilambwe beat runners up Mwinga Lengwe 11 to 5 rackets to walk away with KR 4000, a dual Sim Phone courtesy of Zamtel and a trophy.

 

Runner up Lengwe walked away with KR 3000, a trophy, a dual Sim mobile phone courtesy of Zamtel , in the Men’s category which had a total 32 players.

 

And reigning national champion in the women’s category Sharon Chimfwembe returned her championship after beating her closest rival Monica Chileshe in all the three categories which attracted a total of 10 players.

 

Chimfwembe walked away with total prize money of KR2500, a trophy and a dongle courtesy of Zamtel while her runner up Chimese walked away with KR 1600, a trophy, a fibre T-shirt and a Dual Sim courtesy of Zamtel Limited.

 

Zambia Squash Association (ZSA) president Norena Muteba at the prize giving ceremony described the response from players as an eye opener for other players to participate in other upcoming squash championships.

 

Muteba has since thanked Zambeef Zambia plc, African Grey Insurance, Epinac Mining, Zamtel Zambia among other corporate companies for sponsoring this year’s midlands open.

 

Meanwhile, Zambeef Head of Marketing Perry Siame said his company is proud to be associated with the game of squash adding that it will remain committed to sponsor other future events.

 

The midlands open is the second competitive tournament this year after the Zambia Junior Closed that was successfully hosted by Nkana Squash Club in Kitwe last month.
