Munali MP hands over earth moving equipment

Munali Member of Parliament (MP) Nkandu Luo has handed over earth moving equipments and garbage collection trucks worth KR1.8 million (K1.8 billion) to the Lusaka City Council (LCC) to manage the machines on behalf of her constituency.

The equipment which has being bought using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) include three Tipper trucks, two front loaders, a grader with a low bed truck and a water bowser.

Speaking during the official handover ceremony in Lusaka today, Professor Luo said she is not interested in taking any money out of the funds allocated for the development of her constituency for personal use but was committed to ensure that all the funds were used for the development of the area.

The Munali parliamentarian who is also Chief and Traditional Affairs Minister said she came to Munali Constituency as a focused person who is determined to provide the much needed development that residents in the area have been yearning for.

She also disclosed that as a result of the purchase of the equipments, eight drivers from Munali Constituency have being employed.

Prof Luo urged the drivers to guard the equipment jealously, saying if they damage the equipment, it means they have damaged the constituency.

She also urged the LCC to ensure they follow the laid down procedures when using the machines for them to last.

Prof Luo said Munali constituency has high burden of diarrhea disease hence the purchase of the trucks to help in the Keep Zambia Clean Campaign.

She urged residents of Munali constituency to be an example to the other constituencies in the country where maintaining cleanliness is concerned.

And receiving the equipment, Lusaka City Mayor Daniel Chisenga noted that Lusaka City is facing insurmountable challenges where garbage collection is concerned because of lack of equipment.

Mr Chisenga said the purchase of the equipment for Munali constituency is an indication of good things to come.

He assured the area MP that the equipment will be in safe custody at the Civic Centre and that they will be utilized for the intended purpose which is the collection of garbage and maintenance of roads in Munali constituency.

Mr Chisenga stated that the council will not tolerate the abuse of the equipment and warned those charged with the responsibility of looking after the machines to ensure they are looked after well.

The Lusaka Mayor urged other Constituencies in Lusaka province to emulate the gesture by Munali constituency to channel their CDF to needy areas in order to improve the living welfare of the people.

And Patriotic Front Munali Constituency Chairman Forbes Mufwaya said the constituency office decided to purchase the earth moving equipment and Tipper trucks so that challenges facing the constituency such as the collection of garbage and maintenance of roads are dealt with.
