—The Nakonde Magistrate’s court in Muchinga Province has committed a 31-year-old man to the High Court for sentencing after he was found guilty on charges of defilement contrary to the laws of Zambia.

Before Magistrate Joshua Sikazwe was Richard Sikaonga of Ntindi Township in Chieftainess Nawaitwika’s area in Nakonde district who appeared for judgment on Friday.

Sikaonga stood charged with one count of having carnal knowledge of a 13-year-old girl of Nakonde contrary to Section 138 (1) Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Facts before the court were that on August 17, 2012, Sikaonga, who is believed to be the victim’s uncle, was arrested by the police after he was reported to have defiled a named girl in her father’s house at night while her parents were asleep.

Sikaonga pleaded not guilty to the charge.

When passing judgment magistrate Sikazwe said following the evidence adduced before court by the state witnesses, the court was satisfied that the accused person did commit the said offence.

Magistrate Sikazwe said he had, therefore, found Sikaonga guilty and convicted him accordingly.

‘’ I have found you guilty of the offence you stand charged with and I am going to convict you accordingly,” said magistrate Sikazwe.

Magistrate Sikazwe   committed the accused to the High Court for sentencing in Kasama at its next sitting.
