Nakonde farmers advised to join ZNFU
Nakonde, March 11, 2013, ZANIS… Nakonde district commissioner James Singoyi has advised farmers in the area to affiliate themselves with the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU).
The DC says this will give them access to and recognition from Government support.
Mr. Singoyi said that ZNFU is a strong mouths piece for farmers in the country hence the need for all the farmers to belong to the union.
He added that farmers who are affiliated to the union get support from donors and government easily than those outside the union.
Mr. Singoyi was speaking in Nakonde over the weekend when he officiated at a one – day ZNFU planning meeting held at Mwetwa guest house.
Mr. Singoyi said that ZNFU has in the recent past helped many farmers to get access to loans, agricultural inputs, and other productive services from the government.
He further said that the PF Government has considered agriculture as one of the major contributing activities to the growth of gross domestic product (GDP) in the country.
He said that government is committed to ensuring that it improves the welfare of farmers in the country regardless of their locality.
Meanwhile, Mr. Singoyi has appealed to farmers in the country to consider investing in conservation farming if they are to benefit more from the natural resources.
