A 62 year-old-woman of Manchawa village in Siavonga district has lost a hand and survived a crocodile attack in Lake Kariba where she had gone to fetch water.

The woman, who was identified as Ester Nteni, was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday   night despite losing her right hand during the unfortunate incident.

Felody Mazonga, a relative of the old woman, told ZANIS that the crocodile attacked his  grandmother around 18:00hours as she dipped a bucket in the lake in an attempt to fetch water.

Mr Mazonga said that the woman was only rescued by some fishermen who were on the lakeshore preparing to go fishing after they saw a crocodile pulling the woman down in the water.

Mr Mazonga said it was unfortunate that the crocodile managed to go way with the right hand of the old woman.

Meanwhile, acting District Medical Officer at Siavonga District Hospital, Phallon Mwaba, described the condition of the old woman as stable.

Dr Mwaba, however, said the victim lost a lot of blood during the attack.
