The Lusaka City Council says it is satisfied with the quality of construction works at the East Park Mall along Great East Road.

In an interview with ZANIS, Council Public Relations Manager Habenzu Mulunda said the Mall is fit for trading despite on-going construction works.

Mr  Mulunda said building engineers at the Council periodically check on the quality of the works being done.

He said the engineers are satisfied with the quality of works and standards employed by the contractor and wondered why members of the public are concerned.

Mr Mulunda said the Mall is not a threat to the safety and health of the customers as the contractor has followed laid down standards.

Members of the general public have raised concerns about the quality of works at the mall and that some shops have started operating before works are even fully completed.

However, Mr Mulunda dispelled the concerns and stated that the Mall had applied for a partial occupation certificate and the local authority granted the request.

The Local Authority said the permit allows the tenants the right to trade at the premises even though works are still on-going progress at the Mall.

East Park Mall is Lusaka’s newest state of the art shopping mall located at the corner of Thabo Mbeki and Great East Roads on UNZA grounds.
