—————-Former President Rupiah Banda has advised candidates in the next month’s Presidential election to be generous enough to concede defeat.

Mr. Banda said all the aspiring Presidential candidates should remember that Zambia is bigger than all of them and that the nation’s interest overrides any personal ambitions they may harbour.

According to statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today by his Administrative Assistant Kennedy Limwanya, the former Head of State has since thanked everyone who invited him to re-join active politics and all that supported his return.

And Mr. Banda has urged the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) to remain united in order to participate effectively in the Presidential election with its chosen partners.

Mr. Banda promised to work closely with those who are prepared to accept the existence of the MMD as a legitimate participant in the current political dispensation.

He appealed to his supporters to respect the recent decision of the Supreme court regardless of the view they may have in interpreting the constitution of the MMD.

Following the leadership wrangles that characterised the former ruling party, the Supreme Court last week ordered the MMD to reinstate Dr. Nevers Mumba as its leader and the subsequent candidate for the January 20, 2015 presidential elections.
