2014 table tennis tourney kicks off this weekend
Lusaka, December 15, ZANIS–The K25, 000 rich 2014 Chinese Ambassadors table tennis championship kicks off at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka this weekend.
Zambia Table Tennis Association (ZTTA) tournament director Boyd Kabunda has confirmed the development to ZANIS Sports in a telephone interview today.
Kabunda, who is also national table tennis coach, disclosed that a total of 100 local and international players are expected to participate in what he described as the richest tournament in the 2014 table tennis calendar.
He named the invited countries as Botswana, which has already confirmed participation while Tanzania, Malawi and Zimbabwe are yet to confirm their participation.
And Kabunda praised the Chinese Embassy for sponsoring this year’s tournament saying it will greatly assist in creating a wider base for selecting players for both national and international competitions.
Reigning senior national table tennis champion Friday Ng’andu and junior national champion Choolwe Hamalambo are among the top ranked players participating in the tournament.
Other players include Lloyd Mubanga, Martin Chewe, Noel Kasanda, Simasiku Kalaluka, Humphrey Kapula, George Mulanda, and Timothy Nkhata.
