Zambia will not dwell on past records – Kalusha

FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Kalusha Bwalya says the Chipolopolo will not dwell on past records when they face Mozambique in Saturday’s 2015 Morocco Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
“The most important thing in competition is not to base it on the past record. I think it is a new beginning for Zambia. Every team that has been put on the field has what every Zambian wants to see,” Kalusha said.
Zambia has an impressive record of 14 wins, a draw and without defeat against Mozambique since 1989.
Kalusha said in an interview in Lusaka on Tuesday that the Chipolopolo are on a new beginning and a positive start in the qualifiers will shape Zambia’s campaign.
He said the current team has what it takes to remain strong contenders for the African title.
Kalusha said Zambia will not underrate Mozambique despite having an edge.
He referred to the team that beat Sudan 3-1 in an international friendly at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Sunday as comprising young, talented and industrious players who are ready for new challenges.
“I am looking forward to a very good match. I want the boys to bring themselves to the national cause as they have done in the past. We have a good record at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium and we want to uphold that. It will be important for us to get on to a good start,” Kalusha said.
Meanwhile, national team coach Honour Janza says Zambia has a lot of talented strikers and the technical bench will polish them.
In an interview recently, Janza said there is a need for strikers to be accurate at goal.
He wondered why current strikers in the Zambian league finish the season with less than 20 goals when forwards of yesteryear could bang in over 50 goals.
Janza, a striker during his heyday, scored 46 goals in the 1994 season helping Zesco United win promotion to the Super Division.
“The current strikers are not doing as much as the old school and this is what we are working on and we hope it helps us as we start the campaign for the 2015 Morocco Africa Cup of Nations,” he said.
