THE Matero Local Court heard how a 34-year-old woman of Zingalume township is in a habit of drinking and partying despite her husband advising against it.
This is a case in which Majory Musonda sued her husband, David Banda, 40, also of Zingalume for marriage reconciliation following never ending conflicts in their 17-year- old marriage.
Musonda told the court that she got married to Banda in 1997 and the couple has four children together.
“We have been having problems from the time we got married. In 1998 when I had my first pregnancy, my husband beat me up after a misunderstanding,” she said.
Musonda said in 2012 Banda beat her up severely such that she even reported the matter to Young Women Christians Association.
She told the court that Banda does not look after her properly.
“Once he pays rent and gives me money for food he doesn’t bother about how I look and what I wear,” she said.
She told Senior Court Magistrate Lewis Mumba that Banda stopped paying for her tuition fearing she would leave him if she got educated.
“I decided to go back to school so that I can be able to fend for myself, clothes and other personal needs. He does not like the idea of me going back to school,” Musonda said.
Musonda said Banda is fond of insulting and calling her a prostitute publicly.
“Recently I went to a party with friends and after he arrived home and didn’t find me he called my friend’s phone and threatened to pluck out my eyes for disobeying him. He even called me and my friends prostitutes. I ’m currently staying at his elder brother’s house for fear of being beaten,”she said.
She told the court that she does not want to live with him because her life was in danger.
However Banda in his defence told the court that the only problem he has with Musonda is her partying and drinking habits.
He said at times Musonda goes partying until the following day.
“I want to be with her. I love her and always give her money to meet her needs,” Banda said.
Delivering ruling, the court ordered that the couple goes for counseling.
