British High Commissioner to Zambia James Thornton says it important the all Zambians continue to enjoy the right to meet peacefully and to express their views freely.
Speaking at the reception to mark Queen Elizabeth’s birthday in Lusaka last evening, Mr Thornton says the ability to do so needs to be upheld by the Police.

Mr Thornton says one of the five objectives of the British Government is Zambia over the next four years is to see the reinforcement of democracy, good governance and human rights in Zambia.

And Mr Thornton says the British government has reviewed its objectives in Zambia.

He says one of the five goals is to improve the lives of ordinary Zambians, and help the country achieve its vision of being a prosperous middle income country by 2030.

The British envoy to Zambia says the second objective is to support Zambia in maximizing its economic growth and for Zambians to see the United Kingdom as the partner of choice when they are looking for quality goods and services.

Meanwhile Mr Thornton has described veteran football commentator Dennis Liwewe who died on Tuesday 22nd April as a giant among broadcasters, and a great son of Zambia.

Mr Liwewe will be put to rest tomorrow Saturday, April 26 at the Leopard Hill Memorial Park.
