Zambia Railways Limited has greatly improved its services and operations since government repossessed it from the Railway Systems over a year ago, company Marketing Manager Godfrey Fumbeshi has disclosed.
Mr. Fumbeshi said the company has developed a competitive pricing policy.
He said pricing system of the Zambian Railways is meant to carter for all kinds of business houses because of its affordability.
He was speaking in a Zambia Railways sponsored programme on the Zambia National Broadcasting Services (ZNBC) television last evening.
Mr. Fumbeshi said commuters were also happy that their services have now been improved and can meet the standards which passengers have been calling for.
He said the company was currently involved in the importation of fertiliser to meet the current demand of the commodity in the country.
He further said under the export section, the railway company transports copper from Zambia to other countries where there was demand such as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Mr. Fumbeshi said the company has different kinds of wagons which make it a better placed from other transporters to carry goods.
He said Zambia Railways was equipped to transport cargo with maximum security provided by officers that have been trained by the company.
Mr. Fumbeshi said the use of road transport has the capacity to drain government’s resources because of its nature saying rail transport does not need much maintenance.
