Govt releases funds for Muchinga projects
Chinsali, February 25, 2014, ZANIS… Muchinga province minister Gerry Chanda is happy with the construction progress made so far at the new provincial administration block.
The new administration block consists of a six and four storey building being built by China Jiangxi International Cooperation .
Colonel Chanda said he was also happy that funds for the projects have been released for the works which had stalled.
The minister said now that the money was available he expected nothing but massive progress to be recorded on the project adding that he will not accept any excuses from the contractors.
The Minister urged contractors to speed up the works to make up for the lost time so that the projects could be completed on schedule.
And China Jiangxi International Cooperation says part of the six storey building will be completed by April this year.
The project site manager Bill Lee told Muchinga Provincial Minister Gerry Chanda yesterday when he visited the project to check on the progress that two floors will be completed in two months.
Mr. Bill said the company has been funded adding that the only thing they want is to bridge the gap of the time lost.
He said project is behind schedule but with the funds now available his company will work round the clock to ensure that the time lost was recovered
And Matty Construction Company a Zambian firm awarded to supervise the contract says the construction works were progressing well and are on schedule.
Matty Construction Company Site Manager Todd Masimba said the project is expected to be completed in September this year.
Mr. Masimba said the company is facing a lot of challenges of where to buy building stones while heavy rains have also added to delays in the works.
He told the Minister that they were buying stones from Mununga Quarry in Mpika district and that demand was high as all the constructors in Muchinga buy stones from the same company.
