Mpongwe ultra modern maize storage facility reaches advanced stage .

Mpongwe, January 24, ZANIS-Construction works at the 10,000 tonne Ultra modern maize storage facility at Bwembelelo area of Mpongwe district has reached an advanced stage.

Meanwhile, Mpongwe District Commissioner George Nsali has expressed excitement at the construction of the ultra modern storage shed facility.

Speaking shortly after touring the construction works, Mr. Nsali said the development will go a long way in enhancing food security and further curb maize wastage in the district.

"Am very excited about what government is doing. Most of the time we have been facing challenges in storage facilities especially when there is a bumper harvests. Government has been spending a lot of money to ferry maize year in year out, ‘’he stated.

Mr Nsali added that the project once completed will help save government revenue and further mitigate maize wastage in the district.

The ultra modern storage shed being constructed by Apollo Construction Company is expected to be completed on May 24, 2014.

Meanwhile, Food Reserve Agency FRA Provincial Marketing Coordinator Simon Phiri said the storage shed is expected to store an excess of 200,000 by 50kg bags of maize.

He further disclosed that plans are currently under way to extend the storage capacity.
