North Western province Minister clarifies subsidy removal

Solwezi, June 10, ZANIS ——–North-Western province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu says the removal of subsidies on fuel and maize is purely based on government’s desire to re- channel resources from consumption to critical priority development needs.

Mr Mubukwanu said it is government’s firm belief that subsidies in Zambia have not saved the common good adding that once such resources are re-channelled to critical priority development needs, ordinary citizens will be assured of improved living standards.

The provincial minister was speaking when he officiated at the launch of the First National Bank (FNB) Zambia’s Solwezi branch today.

Mr Mubukwanu stated that infrastructure development is government’s solemn obligation because a sustained economic growth can only be meaningful if the rural areas of Zambia are fully embraced and enhanced with enabling policies.

He observed that policies such as rural electrification, farm blocks, establishment of economic zones, roads and infrastructure development are driven at high cost.

The provincial minister said previously these structures were non-existent or were outdated hence the need to construct them while whilst existing infrastructure need to be upgraded.
