Zambians in Diaspora cry for land

Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania February 20, ZANIS…..Zambians living in Tanzania and Kenya say they are not happy with the manner land acquisition with regards to Zambians living in Diaspora was being handled.

Speaking on behalf of Zambians  living in Tanzania, Mr. Sumbwe said Zambians living in Diaspora have been heeding to the calls by President Sata of the importance of them acquiring land back home but the response from the Ministry of Lands have not been impressive.

Mr. Sumbwe said this in Dar – es- salaam when Information Deputy Minister Mwansa Kapeya met the Zambians living in that country at the official residence of Zambia’s High Commissioner to Tanzania Judith Kapingimpanga.

Mr. Sumbwe explained that after applying for land, the only response they get is the letter confirming the receipt of their application letters.

He appealed to Government to come up with a deliberate policy that would help the Zambians living abroad to acquire land as most of them are willing to invest in various developmental projects back home.

In Kenya Minister of Lands, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Wlbur Simuusa, who was also addressed by Dr. Alfred Mwanza, the Chairperson of Zambian nationals in Kenya over the same issue assured the Zambian nationals living in Diaspora of Governments assistance in the acquisition of land.

Mr. Simuusa who is in Kenya on official duties told the Zambians living in Kenya when he met them at the official residence of the High Commissioner Elizabeth Zambezi yesterday that the Government under the leadership of President Sata has devised a system that will make it easy for the Zambians living in diaspora to acquire land for development.

Mr. Simuusa who was franked by his Permanent Secretary Daisy Ngámbi said Government recongnises the Zambians living in the diaspora as a viable resource in the development of the country.

Mr. Simuusa is a also leading a Zambian delegation to the 27 the United Nations Environment Protection (UNEP) meeting being held at the UN headquarters for Africa in Nairobi, Kenya.
