Airtel Networks Zambia has attributed its network outage on Friday, 7th November experienced by its customers to a core system hardware fault which led to core switches overloading and eventually hanging.
Airtel Director of Corporate Communications, Government Relations and CSR, Joseph Kafwariman says the problem which saw loss of data services, partial voice and SMS services was however rectified by 20:30hrs on the same day.
Mr Kafwariman in a statement issued today explains that the unexpected fault on the hardware system at 15hrs led to customers being unable to make calls and send SMS.
He adds that the affected customers had so far started receiving 20 free on net minutes as compensation for the outage.
Mr Kafwariman further states that Airtel is also in the process of refunding customers who had time bound voice and data packages that were affected during the outage.
