SHOPRITE ACCUSES WORKER OF MANUFACTURING PRICES

Shoprite Zambia General Manager Charles Bota has rectified reports circulating on social and print media on the prices of some of its commodities.
And Patriotic Front Vice Chairperson for Media and Publicity Sunday Chanda this afternoon went on a fact finding mission at Shoprite Manda Hill after images of a Chicken and lean Mince beef costing k101 and K934 respectively hit social media.
Chanda noted with dismay that there players that had taken advantage of the current situation of the Kwacha to exaggerate most commodity prices.
He was reacting to concerns raised by the public after Mwebantu’s earlier reports of a 13Kg pack that was costing a shocking K934.
And Shoprite Zambia General Manager Charles Bota says it is difficult to tell whether the mince was a bulk purchase or it was a maliciously priced item.
“It is difficult to tell whether this was a bulk purchase or it was a maliciously priced item. The matter is being investigated internally as the butchery belongs to Zambeef but is housed by Shoprite.
The price of that lean mince in Shoprite is K68.99 per kg.
There is a choice of meat at different weights and varieties to give the customer a range or choice.”
A check in store however showed some more products that were erroneously priced. A pack of Sausages for example was going at K221 but a check at an exact similar one was at K25.
Shoprite has since instituted investigations on the matter.
