Government is struggling with a huge infrastructure debt in which a major component is owed to Chinese financers and contractors, a minister has said.
Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Minister, Charles Milupi, says the UPND Administration will engage the Chinese government to find an amicable solution to the infrastructure debt inherited from the PF administration.
Milupi said a win-win solution will be sought in resolving the problem.

Speaking during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Li Jie in Lusaka on DEC 1, 2021, Milupi said the new dawn administration is committed to strengthening the bilateral relations with China.
He pointed out that Zambia has benefited immensely from the generosity and friendship of the Chinese people hence the need to strengthen the relationship.

President Hakainde Hichilema’s government recently revealed that out of the country’s nearly $15bn debt, including arrears, about $6bn is owed to Chinese creditors.
A huge chunk of Chinese lending to Zambia went towards infrastructure projects spearheaded by the former PF government.
