TWO Chinese nationals have been arrested for allegedly beating a worker to death on suspicion of stealing construction materials in Malole constituency in Mungwi Disrict.

Mungwi police officer in charge, Ms. Mwikisa confirmed the arrest, but referred all queries to the division command. “Yes I can confirm that the two were arrested and have been transferred to Kasama police station. I however cannot say more and refer further queries to my regional commander,” she said.

Ward area councillor, Ms. Grace Chomba told the Daily Nation in a telephone interview that, the two Chinese contractors are reported to have beat Mr. Everisto Chileshe aged 42 on suspicion of stealing construction materials.

The victim was then rushed to the clinic by his friends around 09:00hrs on Sunday and was pronounced dead around 11:00hrs.

The Chinese were in the area to construct the kusefyapangwena arena at Chitimukulu village.

The deceased is survived by a wife and two children. His body is lying in the Kasama general hospital awaiting post-mortem,” she said.

Ms. Chomba claimed there was no evidence to warrant the beating.

“They did not find anything with him and so they should have taken him to police to help with investigations. They should not have taken the law in their own hands. This is very unfortunate,” she said.
