TOUGH life awaits Livingstone residents following an increase in the cost of living, warns the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR).

According to the JCTR Basic Need Basket (BNB) for the month of July 2018, a family of five in the tourist capital was expected to spend K 4, 285. 94 compared to K 4, 230.01 in June.

That translated into a slight upward adjustment, according to the JCTR.

And in an interview with the Daily Nation, JCTR Livingstone programmes officer George Makaha attributed the rising cost of living to the increase in the prices of food staffs on the market.

He said that for a family of five to have three square meals, it needed to spend K 1, 465.94 on basic food items.

Mr. Makaha said that on the essential none food items, the same family needed to spend K 2, 820.00.

He said that adding up all costs, it shot up to K 4, 285. 94.

Meanwhile, Lusaka has continued to lead the table as the most expensive city in Zambia with an expense of K 5, 256 followed by Ndola at K 4, 898 while Kitwe is on K 4, 564 with Livingstone standing at K 4, 285 for a family of five.
