PF-UPND CADRES LOCK KNUCKLES IN CHILANGA BY ELECTIONS

Violence has erupted in Chimanja ward between Patriotic Front PF cadres and those from the United Party for National Development UPND in the ongoing Chilanga Constituency parliamentary by election.

One person is reported to have been killed in the fracas, but Lusaka Province Commissioner of Police Nelson Phiri who was on the ground refused to comment on the matter.

Mr. Phiri remained mute even when pursued to comment after he met the cadres that led to the situation becoming calm thereafter.

Cadres from the UPND reportedly attacked the PF campaign centre resulting in clashes between the two camps leaving vehicles damaged with some individuals reportedly left injured, before police moved in to control the situation.

But UPND parliamentary candidate Charmaine Musonda accused PF cadres of having beaten some of her relatives that went to cast votes at Kalundu polling station.

Ms. Musonda also claims there was intimidation of voters.

Currently, police have been reinforced to control the situation but earlier met resistance from Patriotic PF cadres who also mobilized at the campaign centre near Kalundu polling station.
