The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has advised political parties aggrieved by its decision to suspend campaigns in Lusaka and Namwala districts to go ahead and seek legal redress.

ECZ Public Relations Manager Crispin Akufuna says as far as the commission is concerned it is on firm ground of the law to have suspended the campaigns in the two Districts.
In an interview with QTV news, Mr. Akufuna says the commission will respect the decision of the Court on its decision to impose a ban on campaigns in Lusaka and Namwala.

He states that as things stand, the commission’s decision to suspend campaigns in the two districts still stands.
Asked why the suspension of the campaigns was not targeted at political parties known to be engaging in violence, Mr. Akufuna says the commission had to issue a blanket ban on all parties.
He says this is on account of the environment which covers all political parties taking part in the forthcoming elections.
