Copperbelt Police have charged former Defence Minister, George Mpombo’s son for the alleged murder of a 17-year-old girl.

The body of the girl was discovered o Thursday.

Police Spokesperson, Munganga Chanda has confirmed this in a statement sent to ZNBC news in Lusaka.

Mrs Chanda says George Mpombo Junior, aged 17, is jointly charged with three other suspects identified, as Kennedy Mumba, 21, Brian Kapinga, 26, and a 16-year-old juvenile.

Mpombo Junior was apprehended on Thursday, after the headless body of a victim, identified as Ruth Phiri, was exhumed from a shallow grave near Chiwala Secondary School.

Mrs Chanda has explained that Mpombo Junior led police officers to a shallow grave, where Ruth’s body was exhumed.

She said according to police investigations, Mpombo Junior allegedly shot Ruth on the forehead on January 11, 2016, after she informed him that she was pregnant.

Mpombo Junior is alleged to have later chopped off the head and buried it near Mulungushi bus stop, while the rest of the body was buried in a shallow grave near Chiwala Secondary School.

Ms Chanda said the body of Ruth is lying in Ndola General hospital, awaiting post-mortem, while the suspects is in custody, as police investigations continue.
