Hippo kills Kaingu fisherman

A TWENTY-YEAR-OLD man of Itezhi-Tezhi, has been mauled by a hippo during a fishing expedition on the Kafue River.
The deceased identified as Voxy Kaliki of Kaingu Village in Central Province, sustained deep wounds on the abdomen during the attack on Monday morning.
Deputy Central Province Commissioner of Police Edwin Bwanga said in an interview yesterday that the body had since been retrieved.

 

The Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) officers have since shot dead the hippo following the incident.
“I can confirm that a 20-year-old man has died after he was stepped on by a hippo which resulted in him sustaining stomach injuries,”he said.
The body is at Itezhi Tezhi hospital mortuary awaiting burial.
Meanwhile, the condition of survivors of a road traffic accident in Chibombo has improved.
District medical officer Jerry Sinyangwe said in a separate interview that the patients would soon be discharged.
Six people, including a child died when two vehicles, a Volvo truck and a Toyota Corolla, collided on Monday this week.
Of the deceased were two females and four males.
