Seventeen people have died on the spot in a road traffic accident involving a Benz truck and a Toyota Hiace minibus on Mumbwa Road in Lusaka.

The accident happened on Saturday morning when the Benz Truck registration number AAH 7373 hit into a Toyota Hiace registration ALH 5968, causing it to overturn.

Lusaka Province Police Commissioner, Charity Katanga, has confirmed the accident to TV2 News in a telephone interview adding that, of the dead, thirteen are male adults, three female and one female juvenile.

She says two survivors are admitted to the University Teaching Hospital – UTH.

 

By broadcast time, Mrs. Katanga, says police were still contacting the owners of the vehicles to establish the identities of the drivers.

She says the truck is still on the scene but the officers are yet to establish whether the driver has died or not.

Mrs. Katanga has since urged members of the public to come forward and help identify the deceased.
Meanwhile, one Zambian has died while three others have sustained injuries after their vehicle overturned in the early hours of today on Peter road in Roodeport, Johannesburg South Africa.

 

The three are admitted to Fourways Life Hospital in Johannesburg. The accident happened around 02:00hours this morning after their vehicle over turned and all passengers thrown out

Press Secretary at the Zambian High Commission in South Africa, Nicky Shabolyo said the accident was confirmed by the President of the Zambia Association in South Africa Ferdinand Simaanya.
