President Lungu arrives in Luanda , Angola

President Edgar Lungu has arrived in Luanda, Angola to attend an Extraordinary Summit of Heads of States of the Great Lakes Region (GLR) summit which opens here tomorrow.

ZANIS Staffer Cecilia Banda reports from Luanda, that the President arrived aboard the Challenger Jet at 4th February International airport in Luanda at 15. 50 local time.

The President was received by Angolan External Relations Minister Georges Pinto Chikoti, Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba, Zambia’s Ambassador to Angola Barbra Chilangwa, Senior Zambian and Angolan government officials.

 

President Lungu is accompanied by North Western Province Minister Dawson Kafwaya, Special Assistant for Press Amos Chanda and for Political Affairs Kaizer Zulu.

President Lungu will tomorrow attend the Extraordinary Summit at the Hotel Talatona and Conference Centre in Luanda along with 11 other Leaders of the Great Lakes Region whose main agenda is to discuss the turbulence in the region with the disturbances in Burundi being top on the Summit Agenda.

 

He was given a Salute Parade by the Angola Army Brigade while Zambians resident in Luanda welcomed him with songs and dance.

The President was the second Head of State to arrive after his counterpart from Congo Brazzaville Denise Sa Sasunguesso while South African President who has been invited to attend the Summit is expected to arrive later this evening.

President Lungu is expected to return home on Tuesday soon after the Summit.
