EIGHT people have died on the spot in a head-on collision of two vehicles in Kalomo, while one survivor is in the intensive care unit at Kalomo District Hospital.
Southern Province commissioner of police Mary Chikwanda confirmed the accident and death of the eight, including a Chinese national.
She said in a telephone interview that the accident that happened yesterday afternoon involved a Noah minivan and a Land Rover Discovery.
“The driver of the Noah minivan wanted to overtake but there was an oncoming vehicle. The two vehicles collided, killing eight people who were on board. The only survivor is admitted to Kalomo hospital,’’ Ms Chikwanda said.
She said that the driver of the Noah died on the spot, but that it is yet to be established if the survivor who is admitted to Kalomo District Hospital was the driver of the other vehicle.
Ms Chikwanda said the dead are three women, four men and a girl.
The bodies of the deceased are in Kalomo Hospital.
