KK jogs, calls for peace, unity

First President Kenneth Kaunda says peace and unity are essential for the development of the nation.

Dr Kaunda was speaking at his residence in Lusaka’s State Lodge Area when UNIP members drawn from constituencies across the country presented gifts to celebrate his 91 st birthday.

The former head of state cheered the party members of the former ruling party when he came to his living room jogging.

Dr Kaunda, who was in a jovial mood despite being recently discharged from the hospital, said peace and unity is the cornerstone of greatness in nation building.

He urged well-meaning Zambians to love one another in order to develop the country.

Dr Kaunda who said he enjoyed the cake which was decorated in colours of the national flag and thanked the gathering for the kind gesture of remembering to celebrate his birthday with him.

“I’m grateful, I’m humbled”, said Dr Kaunda while nodding his head as he read the message in his birthday card.

And UNIP Vice President Njekwa Anamela described Dr Kaunda as a selfless hero who has exemplary qualities that have stood the test of time.

Mr Anamela praised Dr Kaunda for uniting Zambia’s ethnic groupings under the one Zambia One Nation Motto.-ZANIS
