Four more bodies retrieved in Lake Mweru accident

The number of bodies retrieved from the Lake Mweru Wantipa boat accident has risen to seven.

ZANIS meanwhile reports that efforts to retrieve the remaining bodies by the government rescue teams have advanced.

Nsama District Commissioner Panji Chilingala revealed that yesterday the number of bodies retrieved was three but that it has risen to seven by today.

Mr. Chilingala explained that out of the nine people who perished seven were children below the age of five and two adults aged 20 and 27 years.

Mr. Chilingala said government has also provided food stuffs such as mealie- meal and other supporting logistics to all the bereaved families in the area.

Meanwhile, Northern Province Deputy Police Commissioner Alfred Nawa has thanked officers from the Fisheries department and the community members for a combined effort to retrieve the bodies from the Lake.

He however said the search for the remaining two bodies is till on and that the retrieved bodies have since been buried.

 Yesterday, nine people died while eight others survived when the boat they were on capsized on Lake Mweru Wantipa in Nsama District of Northern Province.-ZANIS
