POLICE in Mpika district of Muchinga province have arrested one suspect in connection with over K 22, 000 which went missing at the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) offices.

 Muchinga Police Commissioner Auxensio Daka said a brown envelope containing K22, 877 which was kept in a filing cabinet locker went missing this week on Tuesday, April 21.

 Mr Daka told ZANIS in Chinsali today that it is strongly suspected that Mwape Kunda, 26, of Tazara compound  in Mpika District did steal the said money which was supposed to be used to pay casual workers.

He explained that the suspect ran away from the whole group on their way to the police station for interviews but was later apprehended.

Mr Daka said the matter was reported by FRA Assistant Marketing Officer Fredrick Kalilo aged 36 of Malashi compound.

He said the named suspect is currently in police custody as investigations are still on.

In another development, a Tanzanian national of  Dar es salaam  who was facing a charge of  causing death by dangerous  driving  has escaped from lawful custody .

 Mr Daka who identified the accused as Hassin Kanonge aged 29 years old said the foreign national escaped from lawful custody between April 22 and 23l, 2015 at between 23:40 and 00:25 hours at Shiwang’andu police station. He said no arrest has been made so far but that investigations are under way.

The Police Commissioner said that Kanonge on 19th April this year did cause an accident in which a Congolese national died on the spot.
