Kafue-Muzuma-Livingstone power upgrade progresses

Lusaka, March 12,ZANIS–ZESCO says the Kafue Town-Muzuma- Livingstone 220Kv electricity transmission line upgrade project is expected to be completed in December next year.

 

ZESCO Spokesperson Henry Kapata said the project has been financed by the World Bank, European Investment bank (EIB), ZESCO and the Zambian government at a cost of $100 million.

 

Mr. Kapata told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that four contractors from South Africa, China and Zambia have already been engaged and that works are expected to begin during the current first quarter of 2015.

 

He explained that the project includes the construction of the Greenfield substation in Livingstone, expansion and reinforcement of the existing substation in Kafue district.

 

Mr. Kapata further said that the project will include the upgrading of the substation in Muzuma and the upgrading of the existing transmission line from Kafue Town to Victoria Falls.

 

He said the project is among many other objectives aimed at achieving the effective and efficient performance of the electricity market in the Southern Africa Power Pool (SAAP).
