Govt. spends K39 million on Mpika District Modern Hospital’s construction.

 

 

Mpika, March 11, 2015, ZANIS — GOVERNMENT will spend K39 million to complete Mpika District Modern Hospital.

 

 

Muchinga Province Medical Officer ( PMO ) ,  Francis Bwalya disclosed this to the Special Assistant to the President for Project Monitoring and Implementation Lucky Mulusa at his office today.

 

 

Dr. Bwalya said phase one was done by Waltech Construction at a cost of K10 million and was done within the scheduled 12 months.

 

 

He explained that Phase two comprising wards, Major theatre, Mortuary Unit and service blocks such as the kitchen, Laundry and the store room will cost K19 million.

 

 

He further added that works for the Phase two of the project have been awarded to Wang Chang infrastructure construction, a Chinese company and that the site has already been handed over in readiness for the commencement of the works.

 

 

Dr. Bwalya said the works are scheduled to take 12 months saying the contractor is just waiting for the Government to release the funds.

 

 

He said this after inspecting the just completed Phase I of the district hospital.

 

 

Phase one of the project which is due to be commissioned comprise the Out-Patient Department and the administration block.

 

 

According to the PMO,  the last phase will cost K10 million and will go towards construction of 10 staff houses, six medium cost and four low cost houses for the Doctors and Nurses.

 

 

The first ten houses will be an initial stage as this will be treated as an on-going project until the hospital has enough housing units for all the health staff at the new Hospital. 

 

 

And Mr. Mulusa said he will make a follow-up and engage the ministries of Finance and Health to see to it that funds are released so that the contractor can move on site.

 

 

He expressed confidence that all the on-going projects will be completed by the end of this year and will be commissioned early next year.

 

 

He added that the PF government has no time for leisure but in a hurry to deliver development to the people of Zambia in order to fulfil its campaign promises on infrastructure development.

 

 

The Special Assistant to the President for Project Monitoring and Implementation is in Muchinga Province to check on the implementation of Government projects.
