Farmers in Chief Mwamba’s area in Kasama District have commended the non-governmental organisation Vision Fund for their loan facility meant to improve the farmers’ activities.

In an interview with ZANIS in Kasama today, Lewis Sikaonga, a famers’ representative said the micro- loans have improved the livelihood of farmers in the area.

Mr Sikaonga said the loans have assisted the farmers to improve their yields therefore leaving enough for sale.

He said this has contributed to the raising of the standards of living for the beneficiaries.

The Visin Fund loans have so far benefitted 50 farmers in terms of loan facilities and training programmes in Kasama district.

Mr. Sikaonga added that the programme has contributed to poverty reduction at the household level.

He appealed to Vision Fund to extend the program to other parts of the country so that more farmers could benefit from the loans.

Mr Sikaonga also called on farmers to take advantage of empowerment programmes to improve their livelihoods.
