Nutrition program gets Irish boost
Samfya, March 5, 2015, ZANIS…. Irish Aid in Partnership with CARE has
given over K500,000.00 to three Ministries to scale up nutrition
programmes.
The beneficiary ministries are Agriculture and Live Stork, Health and
Local Government and Housing for the implementation of Scaling Up
Nutrition (SUN) Program in Samfya district in Luapula Province.
The funds released amount to K573,559.00 of which the Ministry of
Agriculture and Live Stock has been allocated K317, 222 .
The Ministry of Health has been given K188, 165 while the Ministry of
Local Government and Housing has been allocated K68, 172.00

Samfya District Nutrition Cooperating Committee  Support Director
Funwell Kabila disclosed the development to ZANIS in Samfya today.

Mr. Kabila said the funds which have been allocated for Samfya
District Nutrition Cooperating Committee team will be used in the
first quarter of the year.

Mr Kabila says the multi-sectoral key line Ministries will utilize
their funds through implementing programs which will help prevent
stunting and malnutrition by focusing on the first 1000 most critical
days of life in a child.

He added that the joint multi- sectoral ministries funds if utilize
properly will contribute to achieving the reduction of stunting in
children from 45 percent to 30 percent nationally and will also
contribute to achieving theMillennium Development Goals (MDGs) number
one, two, three, four and six.

Mr Kabila said there is need for all players in the district to
utilize the funds for the intended purpose so that Samfya becomes a
model district in reducing the current high levels of chronic
malnutrition countrywide.

He has since urged all key line ministries to also use the money for
the nutrition programs in order to prevent stunting and malnutrition
among children in Samfya district.
