The construction of additional student hostels at the Copperbelt University in Kitwe has started.

Government has released over 450 Million Kwacha for the project which will provide 2,560 bed spaces at CBU.

CBU Acting Registrar GOLDEN KALIMA says 14 hostels will be at the main campus in Riverside while 6 will be at the School of Medicine in Ndola.

Mr. KALIMA has told ZNBC News in an interview in Kitwe today that government has engaged 4 contractors for the project to be undertaken in 2 years.

Chinese contractor Hua, Jiang investments has already moved on site.

Meanwhile CBU has found an equity partner for the construction of more hostels to accommodate 4 thousand students at a cost of 7,000 United States Dollars.

Mr. KALIMA says the university has entered into a Public private partnership arrangement with Optiquest, a local contractor who will also renovate the old hostels and put up kitchens at CBU.

He says the Agreement is however yet to be signed.
