Govt commends FB for its corporate responsibility

Chinsali, February 17, 2015, ZANIS  —  Government  has commended Finance bank over its continued social responsibility programmes to rural communities.

Provincial Education Standards Officer (PESO) in Muchinga Province , Peggy Chilema said this when she received reading tools for Chinsali, Shiwangándu and Isoka districts from Finance bank through the United States of America international Development Agency  (USAID) project dubbed “reading to succeed”.

Ms. Chilema has urged teachers from beneficiary schools to jealously  guard the donation that will go a long way in improving reading standards that will help pupils assimilate knowledge and be able to pass examinations easily.

The standards officer said the donation is rare and that this is the second time Finance bank has partnered with government to provide learning materials following last year when a similar donation of 140 reading tools was made to various schools.

And Finance bank Chinsali branch manager, Kennedy Mukwela said the bank is committed to better the lives of rural communities saying last year it made similar donation in a bid to help in meeting the millennium development goals (MDG’S).

Mr. Mukwela said his bank will not end at supporting government through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) in the education sector only but will endeavour to exploit many frontiers.

Speaking at the same function, USAID project manager, Peter Sinyangwe said the ‘reading to succeed” programme is very important for rural pupils as it provides a mini library for pupils learning in rural schools.

He said the tools contain various reading materials such as story books, dictionaries, compact discs (CD’S) which have been developed and authored by Zambian teachers set in local areas which pupils can easily understand.
