Defunct UBZ workers call for their release

Kasama, February 12th,  2015/ZANIS—Former United Bus Company of Zambia (UBZ) employees have appealed to the government to release their benefits.

In a statement to ZANIS in Kasama District today, the former employees said they had not been given their benefits for twenty two years.

James Mponyela said since the company went under liquidation, the government has not released their benefits.

He appealed to government to address their plight, saying the matter has taken too long despite numerous complaints by the ex-employees.

Mr. Mponyela said it is sad to know that most former employees have died without receiving their money.

He said that widows and orphans are now the ones who have remained to claim for their relatives’ money.

He has appealed to newly elected Republican President Edgar Lungu to come to their plight.
