Voting started in Mpongwe district with a slightly low turnout.

Rainy and wet weather partially disrupted voters from trekking to the nearest polling stations.

A check by ZANIS in most polling stations found no queues as most voters had cast their votes as early as 06:30 hours.

Mpongwe Constituency Returning Officer Joachim Mangwale said preliminary results for major polling stations are expected to be in by 20:00hrs tonight.

He however stated that the the totalling centre will rely on choppers from the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to transport staff from remote areas.

Among some of the remote areas are Mushiwe, Muyambe and Kapili.
