The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) in Mongu District of Western Province has urged political parties to refrain from political violence in order to have peaceful elections.

ZANIS reports that Mongu District Electoral Officer (DEO) Mwiya Mwiya said that it was vital for the political parties to avoid violence because this would scare some voters adding that politicians should not encourage their Cadres to be involved in the vice.

Mr. Mwiya noted that all political parties should adhere by the law before and during the forth-coming elections, hence the need for everyone to respect one another despite their political affiliation for the citizenry to remain united.

The DEO said this during a stakeholder’s elections meeting held at Kambule Technical Secondary School in Mongu District today.

He further stated that the police officers should insure that all voting materials were in order and advised all political parties taking part in this year’s polls to appoint their own polling agents to monitor the elections.

The DEO said that all agents must be vigilant and should have all the necessary election tools during the polling day to avoid mistakes.
