Govt reiterates commitment to welfare of the poor

Samfya, Jan 5/15 ZANIS——Community Development, Mother and Child Health Minister, Emerine Kabanshi, says government attaches great importance to the welfare of every citizen in the country especially those that are disadvantaged in society.

Ms Kabanshi says this has been demonstrated by a number of measures that government is implementing that are aimed at addressing the challenges that poor people go through.

She added that government is commitment to fighting extreme poverty, adding that it will provide necessary financial support for effective implementation of the Social Cash Transfer Program in Samfya District.

The minister, who is also Luapula Constituency Member of Parliament, said this at the launch of the Social Cash Transfer initiative in Samfya District.

And District Administrative Officer, James Mulenga, commended government for launching the Social Cash Transfer Scheme in the district.

Mr Mulenga said the long awaited Social Cash Transfer scheme will go a long way in reducing the high levels of poverty among the people in Samfya.

Meanwhile, Luapula Province Provincial Social Welfare Officer, Cosmas Lukupulo, said government has created an enabling environment that allows its citizens to have room to drive their own development agenda.

Mr Lukupulo revealed that government will this year scale up the number of beneficiaries in Samfya.

He urged all the Social Cash Transfer beneficiaries to utilise the money wisely and effectively as positive experiences have already been shown in other districts.
