Kalabo residents fail to replace cards

Kalabo, January 4, 2015, ZANIS………………. The electorate in Kalabo district whose voters card are damaged were not able to have them replaced due to long distances to get to the centers that Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) selected for the replacement exercise.

This is according to a survey conducted by ZANIS in the district in five different areas yesterday.

The survey revealed that most electorates were required to cover over 100 kilo meters to get to the selected replacement centers .

The electorates observed the need to have more centers especially in Kalabo because of the vastness of the wards in the district.

As at yesterday, January 3 which was the official closing day for the exercise, Kalabo Central Constituency only had 160 voters who came to have their voters cards replaced.

A Center like Lukona had no people going to have their cards replaced despite an extensive publicity conducted by the ECZ in the area due to long distances.

Voters have since appealed to ECZ to create more centers for the exercise and make the process on going so that people could fully use the services.
