Zambia experiencing a rise in non-communicable diseases – Kasonde

— Health Minister Joseph Kasonde says the country is experiencing a rise in non-communicable diseases which has necessitated a number of interventions to be put in place to improve health delivery.

 

Dr. Kasonde said his ministry is currently modernizing hospitals to enable them meet the demand for specialized treatment due to the rise in non-communicable diseases in the country.

 

Speaking during the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) between Zambia and Sweden in the field of Health, Mr Kasonde noted that there is need for his ministry to engage in research on a number of new diseases in order to be more efficient in the delivery  of health services.

Dr. Kasonde stated that the signing of the MOU with the Swedish government falls within the framework of collaboration that exploits new opportunities that will help improve the country’s health service delivery.

And Swedish Ambassador to Zambia, Lena  Nordstrom said the signing  of the MOU signified the commitment between the two countries to work together and collaborate on a number of health issues that affect people in country..
