NINETEEN people have sustained serious injuries after the bus they were travelling on overturned on the Mansa-Chembe road due a tyre burst, Luapula Province commissioner of police Malcolm Mulenga has said.
Mr Mulenga said yesterday that the accident happened on Saturday at Milenge.
Mr Mulenga said the driver of the Isuzu bus registration number ACT 9845, identified as James Kombe, 39, of Mansa, lost control of the vehicle due to the tyre burst and it overturned.
“Eight are admitted at Mansa general hospital including the driver while 11 are admitted at Chembe Rural Health Centre,” Mr Mulenga said.
He said the bus was extensively damaged and it was towed to Mansa Central Police Station.
Mr Mulenga said 11 of the injured are in a stable condition.
