—-The local authority in Shiwang`andu district of Muchinga province has warned of stern action over residents keeping straying domestic animals.

Shiwang`andu District Council Secretary (CS), Maybin Mulenga, said those keeping domestic animals should take full responsibility of their animals or risk having them killed.

Mr Mulenga has therefore warned residents who own domestic animals to ensure that their animals are caged and kept within their household yards.

He said very soon the council, working in collaboration with the police, will embark on a programme of killing stray animals that will be found moving aimlessly.

Mr Mulenga said this in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Shiwang`andu today.

He said straying domestic animals are disturbing the community hence the need for owners to take responsibility over their animals.

Meanwhile, a number of residents talked to by ZANIS said they are happy that the local authority in the area is controlling stray domestic animals such as dogs, pigs and goats.
