Govt. commends Chief Kanyama for improved livelihoods in his chiefdom


Mwinilunga, November 20, 2014, ZANIS —-   Government has commended Chief Kanyama of the Lunda speaking people in Mwinilunga district of Northwestern province for supplementing its efforts in uplifting the living standards of vulnerable people in the area.

 


District Commissioner Irene Mate says it is gratifying to note that Chief Kanyama has continued to supplement government’s efforts in addressing the needs of vulnerable groups such as the aged, widows and orphans among others.

 


Mrs Mate said this in Mwinilunga district yesterday when Chief Kanyama donated food staff and bed linen to prisons and three health institutions in the district which are part of the gifts people presented to him during the Chidika Cha Mvula Traditional Ceremony  early last month.

 


She stated that government through her office recognizes and appreciates the cordial working relationship it enjoys with traditional leaders in the district in spearheading development and improving people’s lives.

 


Mrs Mate said government is very much concerned about the welfare of the prisoners and the sick in hospitals and other vulnerable people in society but cannot alone meet their demand hence the need for people and businesses houses in district to emulate the spirit of giving shown by Chief Kanyama.

 


And district state Prison Officer in-Charge Jacob Lwenje thanked the Chief Kanyama for the donation saying it will go a long way in supplementing on what government is proving for the inmates.

 


Chief Kanyama who spoke through his representative Godfrey Shimo that he take pride in sharing what he has with vulnerable people donated 15 X 50 kilogram bags of maize to the District Hospital,10 X 50 kilogram bags of maize to Sachibondu rural health center and another 10 X 50 kilogram bags of maize to prisons.

 


While 10 blankets were donated to Kanyama rural health center and 63 bags of cassava chips to the aged, widows, orphans among others in his Chiefdom.
