Opposition Alliance Chairperson Malimba Masheke says former President Rupiah Banda is welcome to join the alliance provided he makes a formal application to join.
The Zambian Voice has recently suggested that if Mr. Banda is to make political comeback the best political party he can use to reclaim the presidency he lost in 2011 is the opposition alliance which comprises the MMD, Alliance for Better Zambia (ABZ), Zambians for Empowerment and Development (ZED), People’s Party (PP) and the All People’s Congress (ACP).
In an interview with Qfm News General Masheke says in welcoming individuals to apply to join the alliance, it does not however mean that the Alliance is now desperate for people to join it.
General Masheke who is also former Prime Minister under the United National Independence Party (UNIP) government notes that anyone wishing to join the Alliance should do so openly and out of their own volition after which the Alliance will consider their application to join.
He explains that this therefore means that if former President Banda wants to join the Alliance he should do so on his own by approaching the Alliance.
General Masheke, who could not state whether or not Mr. Banda’s joining of the Alliance would also automatically mean that he has become its candidate for the 2016 general election, says the Alliance is still working towards coming up with its leader.
