————Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Deputy Minister, Josephine Limata, has called on traditional leaders to advise their subjects to desist from marrying off their daughters at a tender age.

Ms Limata said traditional leaders are eyes of government hence the need for them to step up the campaign against child marriages.

She said this during Chidika Chamvula Traditional Ceremony of the Lunda people held at Chief Kanyama’s palace in Mwinilunga district
over the weekend.

The Deputy Minister said it is not fair for parents to marry off their young daughters at an expense of them acquiring education which could make them
contribute positively to national development.

Speaking through his representative, Godfrey Shimo, Chief Kanyama appealed to government to speed up the construction of Kanyama Boarding Secondary School.

Chief Kanyama said the project started in 2009 and that up to now the school is not open due to lack of water and power.
