Zambia Netballers qualify for  2015 World Netball Cup tournament in Australia

Lusaka, September 28, 2014,  ZANIS — Zambia has qualified to the international Netball Federation (INF) world cup games to be hosted in Sydney, Australia next year, 2015.

 

This follows an announcement by            INF that Zambia will be among the sixteen nations that will compete at the Netball World Cup in starting from 7 to 16 August, 2015.

 

The INF named the last 16 teams after the September 2014 rigorous qualifying events across the five regions of Europe, Oceania, America, Asia and Africa.

 

ZANIS sports reports that the INF on its website says that the top six nations automatically qualified when the INF World Rankings were confirmed in July this year.

 

These are Australia, New Zealand, England, Jamaica, Malawi and South Africa who will be joined by Wales, Scotland, Fiji, Samoa, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Uganda and Zambia from the regional Qualifiers.

 

Zambia, who defeated high ranked African nations at the just ended Botswana tournament, will be competing for the second time in the World Cup since the tournament began in 1963.

 

Meanwhile, Zambia has been ranked number 22 in the latest World Netball rankings based on matches played up to August 25, 2014.

 

Australia are the world most ranked followed by New Zealand, England, Jamaica with Malawi closing the top five bracket.
