—Veteran politician, Isaac Choonga, has welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ant Corruption Commission and Transparent International Zambia.

Mr Choonga said the coming together of the two institutions will step up the zeal to fight corruption in order to bring sanity in the country.

The veteran politician, who is also a freedom fighter and former governor in the first republic,  was speaking to ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today.

He said there is no way public funds meant to benefit the Zambian people will continue to be looted by selfish corrupt individuals.

Mr Choonga lamented that corrupt individuals, whether in government or private sector, should be dealt with severely because they are detrimental to national development.

He said during Dr Kenneth Kaunda’s regime, corruption was not heard of at all because leaders tirelessly worked for the development of mother Zambia.

He disclosed that Dr Kaunda never tolerated thieves and made sure that such people were punished heavily and this deterred people from looting public resources.

And Mr Choonga has advised President Michael Sata to continue his vigorous fight against graft.

Mr Choonga said the head of state has shown the Zambian people that he does not want corrupt people in his government and as such, he deserves a pat on the back.

He also advised Zambians to join the crusade to fight against corruption adding that corrupt people should be exposed whenever they are discovered.
